Cattle Grid Leeds

A couple of weeks ago we had some friends over from Amsterdam, and when it came to eating out we decided to take them to a popular Leeds city centre steakhouse – Cattle Grid.

There was quite a large group of us, so we decided to book an early-ish table, even though it was a Thursday, and were surprised to find quite a few people sitting down to eat at the same time as us.

Cattle Grid Leeds is nicely decorated and in case you were in any doubt of their specialism, a large picture of a cow sectioned into different cuts of meat greeted you at the bar.

We were taken to our table and our drinks order was taken while we perused the mouth-watering menu. There was a different section for each type of meat, and a great selection of dishes on offer, including steaks, burgers and ribs. The amazing choice available left people debating over what they should get for going on ten minutes.

When it came to drinks we all hopped on the lager wagon and ordered a pint of Becks, apart from Marion, who went for a refreshing Lime and Strawberry Koppaberg to accompany her meal.

We finally decided on an array of burgers, a steak, a half rack of ribs, and a Philly cheesesteak sandwich, accompanied by multiple bowls of chips and sweet potato fries.

The steak was cooked to perfection and was tender and juicy all the way through. It was a good size and came with hand-cut chips and a sauce of your choice. Tom went for the garlic and chilli butter sauce, and said it was one of the best steaks he had ever had.

The half rack of ribs got a big thumbs up; they tasted amazing and offered a beautiful combination of sweet flavours and sticky glazing. The only downside was that they were slightly spicier than expected, so Marion struggled to finish them all.

The burgers were all demolished in seconds, and the only downside with the Philly cheesesteak sandwich was that there were mushrooms in it, which hadn’t been specified in the menu. Apart from that Rich said it was one of the best things he had ever eaten.

All the staff were very friendly and came to check on us a few times to see how our food was and whether we needed anything else. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and although this time we didn’t have any desserts, the menu looked amazing.

Cattle Grid Leeds is great for big parties like ourselves, but there were also lots of couples and smaller groups dining while we were there. At around £30 a head for a two course meal and drinks, this restaurant provides great value and great food for a range of different outings.
