When we think of al fresco dining in Leeds we usually conjure up images of a villa in Spain or another hot country, where eating indoors is inconceivable. Leeds doesn’t have a huge amount of areas for al fresco dining, most likely due to the unpredictable weather, but when the sun is out it’s nice to make the most of it.

Our top places for al fresco dining Leeds:

The Restaurant Bar and Grill

1. The Restaurant Bar and Grill

Situated in the Old Post Office in the heart of City Square, The Restaurant Bar and Grill is a fantastic place to go for brunch, lunch or dinner. The inside of the restaurant is smart and stylish, and outside there is a fantastic space for al fresco dining during the summer. When sat inside you can even watch the chefs at work in the open theatre style kitchen.

The Restaurant Bar and Grill Leeds can be found just opposite the Queen’s Hotel, next to the train station, making it the perfect place to stop for a delicious meal, and cocktail or two, before you head home. The menu includes mouth-watering steaks, slow cooked pork, and a selection of different seafood.

The Woods

2. The Woods

It’s had its ups and down over the past six months, but with new owners and a new lease of life, The Woods is open again for the summer. Just as well really, as they have one of the best outside seating areas in Chapel Allerton, with large booths and tables, accompanied by heat lamps for when the chillier weather sets in.

This casual bar and pizza place really makes the most of their traditional wood fired oven, and offers a selection of delicious, fresh pizza seven days a week. With a comfortable al fresco dining area and new management behind it, we’re looking forward to seeing The Woods thrive over the summer months.

Blackhouse

3. Blackhouse

When it comes to steaks, Blackhouse is in a league of it’s own. Its minimalist décor and one page menu reflect that of a sophisticated New York steak house. It has a lovely buzzy atmosphere, and best of all, it has a small terrace for when the sun is out and you fancy a spot of al fresco dining.

Situated in the heart of Leeds city centre, Blackhouse is easy to get to and the perfect place to dine on any occasion, at any time of the day. The food is incredible and they have a large drinks menu to accompany it – the knowledgeable staff will help you choose a wine to complement your food.

Cielo Blanco

4. Cielo Blanco

Part of Leeds Trinity, Cielo Blanco is a Mexican restaurant with stunning views right across the city. The restaurant is positioned over Briggate, so you can watch the shoppers and street performers as you eat. From the front, Cielo Blanco has a small indoor area and a covered section of seats, but at the back it has a lovely little terrace, perfect for those sunnier days.

Their menu consists of all the favourites, including an authentic street food section inspired by Mexico, and sharing platters for when you don’t fancy a whole meal to yourself. They also have a delicious selection of cocktails, perfect for drinking in the sun after a long day of work.
