You can find some of the best beer gardens in Leeds, including that of lively pubs, indie scene terraces, all the way to classy and sophisticated open bar lounges. Being the lovely folks that we are, we thought we would give the people of Leeds a better knowledge of some of the best options available for you to let loose in this Summer. Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen

1. Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen

First on the list is for all those indie/rock/alternative and pretty much any other cool kind of music lover out there. Situated on Cross Belgrave St, Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen offers a “funky” rooftop terrace, inclusive of quirky decor such as white picket fences, bright and colourful shrubbery, the odd indoor seated shed, and hey, they even have a bar at the top to save you the trouble of walking down a few flights of stairs for your next drink.

Along with being a hip and on the scene environment, the rooftop terrace also offers picturesque views of the whole of Leeds city centre. It’s a great place to enjoy the Summer sun with friends, and wait under the heated lamps to watch the sunset over Leeds City Centre.

2. Lower Merrion Street

Those who are regulars in the Leeds City Centre drinking scene should be very clued up on the amazing vibe that is Lower Merrion Street, if not, where have you been?!

Situated just across from Belgrave Music Hall, just off of the top of Headrow, Lower Merrion Street really is the place to be both for a lively drink and dance into the night, along with a chilled and upbeat drink through the sunny Summer Day. Being well known as the host of many bank holiday garden party, Lower Merrion Street offers a spacious closed off, private road, filled with a good number of tables and chairs for you to leisurely peruse cocktail menus.

Surrounded by a cluster of bars/restaurants, including Mojo, Verve, The Mean Eyed Cat, Brotherhood, Manahatta, Bar Soba and The Pit, Merrion Street offers up a vast amount of choice in both food and drink for you to enjoy whilst the hot Summer Sun brightens up the entire street.

Banyan

3. Banyan

Being a newby on the Leeds food and drink scene, replacing Loch Fyne, Banyan is a newly established restaurant and bar located smack bang in the middle of the city centre. Within a two minute walk from the station, Banyan offers up a picturesque outdoor eating area within Leeds City Square. This lively scene is perfect for sitting back, relaxing, whilst also enjoying the fact you can enjoy the evening rays of Sun while watching folks rush for their trains!

Banyan offers up a slightly different take on the usual beer garden, given that one thing they specialise in is their Gins. They do offer a great range of other beers, wines, cocktails etc, however, if you are a Gin enthusiast, we would highly recommend spending your summer nights here.

The Alchemist

4. The Alchemist

If it’s a little more class and spice in your drink you are seeking, The Alchemist may just be the perfect place for you. Situated on top of the lively Trinity Centre, this sophisticated cocktail bar offers up a unique twist on all of your favourite cocktails, and what better way to enjoy them than to sit on a classy terrace with great views of the city centre!

Their outside roof terrace spans across the entire bar, meaning no matter where the sun decides to stay in the sky, you will always find a sweet spot to catch some rays. The Alchemist does offer a range of tasty beers and spirits, however is better suited to those who like an exciting cocktail or ten!

5. Headrow House

Next on the list is the relatively new Headrow House. Offering stunning views over Victoria Quarter, their second floor roof terrace offers up an ideal spot to catch some rays while enjoying the vast range of drinks and food they have available.

Their rooftop terrace includes a great deal of comfortable seating, a fully stocked bar and even a kitchen, just incase like us, you enjoy a good bit of grub to help line what is an already full of booze stomach! Headrow house also has a connecting bar offering up a pint sized cocktail menu!

Slate NQ

6. Slate NQ

Situated close by to the previously mentioned Merrion Street, what was once The Lounge, got reformed into Slate NQ. This Pub/Bar is fantastic for the Beer enthusiasts, with it constantly bringing in tasty new ales and sparkling lagers. That’s not all though, they also offer a vast range of wines, cocktails and spirits, so there is something for everyone!

Slate NQ boasts a massive outdoor seating area, comprising of an entire three seperate beer gardens! So there’s a ton of room to head down with your friends and make the most of the English Summer!

Greek Street

7. Greek Street

Home to some of the higher end bars and restaurants in Leeds, including the second of the Alchemist bars, Greek street has a great reputation for those who want to get on their gladrags and dine/drink in style. The street itself is home to a variety of bars and restaurants, including The Liquorist, Gusto, All Bar One, Giraffe, Bem Brasil, Slug and Lettuce and many more.

Did you know that the street has now been, for the most part, pedestrianised? Yes, some clever sole realised the streets potential for outdoor dining, meaning you can now enjoy the Summer sitting out on the street, al fresco style! Take note, the street is closed to traffic from 5pm- to midnight on a Thursday and Friday, and 1pm – midnight on the weekend.

Another of the fancy bars on the list is Sky Lounge! If it’s a classy, up market bar that has an outdoor balcony offering some of the best views possible in the Centre of Leeds you seek, we can suggest no better place.

Their menu comprises of a range of drinks, however is predominantly made for all you cocktail connoisseurs out there. The cocktails vary hugely, with a large range of the old classics, to some they have created themselves. They also serve food on a daily basis, so if it’s a cocktail and platter you fancy, definitely go check out Sky Lounge.

The Cross Keys

9. The Cross Keys

For those who are looking for a slightly more secluded, traditional yet still upbeat spot in Leeds, The Cross Keys could be for you. Situated on the outskirts of the City Centre, The Cross Keys offers up a large outdoor, pub style seating area that is perfectly placed for you to catch some afternoon rays.

Cross Keys is another on the list that is ideal for all of you beer enthusiasts. Being part of The North Bar “crew”, you can expect a great range of local and imported ales, lagers, as well as the usual cocktails, wines, and spirits!

Cielo Blanco

10. Cielo Blanco

Who likes Mexican? Or who doesn’t like mexican? We’re pretty sure everyone loves Mexican! Well if you do, you need to try Cielo Blanco. This South American inspired restaurant does justice to the Mexican way of eating. With a menu offering up fajitas, enchiladas, tacos and pretty much anything else Mexican you can think of.

One of the best things about this restaurant is its outdoor terrace. Located on the top of the Trinity Centre, Cielo Blanco boasts a modest and contemporary roof terrace offering great views of lower Briggate, meaning you can sit back and relax while watching over all of the hustle and bustle of Leeds City Centre.

Calverley Arms

11. Calverley Arms

For those that are wanting an out of City beer garden, the Calverley Arms could be the best choice for you. This quaint and traditional English country pub oozes with rural charm and a rustic character! The pub is surrounded by picturesque scenery, meaning when Summer time hits, dining al fresco in their spacious beer garden becomes rather popular!

Their menu offers up an exquisite range of both pub classics, as well as fancier dishes such as Calamari, Risotto and Souffle! You can also enjoy the large variety of drinks they offer, including many cask ales, fine wines and spirits!
