As a thriving, multicultural city, Leeds caters for a variety of tastes and nationalities. For muslims, that means halal restaurants where great food can be enjoyed with the peace of mind of knowing nothing on the menu is haram (forbidden). These are also great places for people to eat well in relaxed surroundings, and everybody’s welcome. So for those who want to experience culinary delights, halal style, here’s a hand picked selection of the best halal restaurants in Leeds:
Top of the list comes Bison Steakhouse. Certified as a 100% genuine halal restaurant, according to the UK Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC), Bison serve chicken, lamb and other wonders as well as meals made with 100% Angus beef, which can be taken away or savoured within the 16 seat capacity restaurant.
It seems that everyone who eats there, sings its praises. One example from their Facebook: “Bison is a treasure for Beeston: Cannot recommend it highly enough!”. Based on Dewsbury Road, Bison Steakhouse is open 7 days a week from 4.30pm til 11pm and are very reasonably priced. Enjoy!
Mumtaz first started out in 1979 as a restaurant in Bradford, serving 100% halal delicious Kashmiri cuisine. Forty years is a long time to succeed in the restaurant business and they now have a second Bradford site as well as one in Leeds. It’s a large site with a beautiful and luxurious interior and a great addition to our list of Halal restaurants in Leeds.
As well as a superb selection of food on their menus, their website highlights a range of added features such as disabled access, wifi and even a prayer room. Situated on Chadwick Street, Leeds 10, Mumtaz opening times are 4pm til 11pm, weekdays, and midday to 11pm at weekends.
We couldn’t mention halal restaurants without mentioning Joey’s on Lodge Lane, Leeds LS11. As a fast-food restaurant specialising in pizza, it is a great establishment for parties, children, take-away, walk-in and it has the HMC seal of approval so you know everything in there is totally halal.
Open for just over 12 months, they are possibly the only halal pizza restaurant in Leeds. Open from 5pm til 10pm, Thursday to Sunday, Joeys could be the ideal place to meet friends or to take the children.
New restaurants and take-aways are opening all the time. While many will say they are halal, that may mean they can serve halal food, and other food being served from the same restaurant may not be halal. To be totally sure that a food venue really is 100% halal and “certified” as such, check the UK Halal Monitoring Committee, by checking their website, http://www.halalhmc.org
The Halal HMC website is a useful resource for muslims throughout the UK and not only lets you know where to find the best halal restaurants but also provides halal recipes!
